What are natural waxes?
A scented candle primarily consists of wax, which is a collective term for a variety of raw materials that can be natural or synthetic, i.e., paraffin. We only work with vegetable waxes, but there are different types here as well.
Which wax is the most natural?
The most common natural wax is soy wax, produced from soybeans, but the trend is increasingly moving towards using rapeseed wax, which is produced in Europe and is therefore a more sustainable alternative. The choice of wax is based on which fragrance oil will be used, as there can be differences in how the candle burns or purely aesthetically, how the surface of the candle looks with different fragrance oils. All waxes also have different melting points and also affect the candle's burn time and behavior. Both soy and rapeseed wax are good waxes from a sustainable perspective if they are produced in Europe to avoid long-distance transport.
Regarding palm wax, which has a large market and is one of Southeast Asia's most important export goods, it is important to ensure that the wax is RSPO certified. This means that the wax originates from plantations that have not affected rainforests. RSPO is the quality seal that WWF, the World Wide Fund for Nature, also supports.
